Summer can be a challenging time to stay involved in a church. During the traditional “school year” months, churches tend to be very busy places with lots going on and plenty of activities and groups with which you can be involved. There are often Bible study groups, support groups, fellowship groups of various types, and events for kids and adults alike. However, when summertime comes around, a lot of groups tend to go on a break. This is definitely understandable—people tend to go on vacations in the summer and group leaders and volunteers can often use a much-needed break.
Without regularly scheduled church activities, it can be difficult to stay connected with those church—especially if you don’t already have an established group of friends there. Of course, you can continue to attend regular Sunday services, but what if you want more? Here are three ways you can stay involved and connected to others in your Temecula church:
Volunteer
Churches often struggle to find adequate volunteers during the summer months. If you aren’t already serving in your church, the summer is a great time to start! Just about every church can always use more volunteers in their children’s programs. There is also likely a need in positions such as usher, greeter, administrative support, and a whole host of other behind-the-scenes roles.
If you’re not sure where to serve in your Temecula church, just ask a church staff member! He or she will likely be able to point you to an area of the church that is in need of help.
If you can’t commit to serving in your church every week, consider volunteering to fill in when needed, like when regular volunteers are on vacation. There may also be one-time special events during which you can serve, such as your church’s vacation bible school, which is typically only for one week during the summer in most churches.
Pray
Many Temecula churches have groups dedicated to prayer. They meet regularly to pray over the church, their communities, and the world—even throughout the summer months. While some church prayer groups are very formal and others are more casual, all of them would certainly welcome another member!
Prayer is a great way to connect with God and others in your church, as you come together for a common purpose.
Join a Year-Round Group or a Special Summer Group
While many church small groups take breaks during the summer, there may be some in your Temecula church that don’t. Often support groups meet year-round. But if a support group isn’t your what you’re looking for, your church may also have a special summer Bible study specifically for people who want to stay connected by studying the Word of God together.
If you’re not sure if your Temecula church has something you can join, don’t be afraid to ask! There may be a group that isn’t advertised that you could join, or your church may be willing to help you organize something for the summer.
